If you want harmonies without Donna, only listen to the pre-Donna years where Phil sings the high parts or the post-Donna years where Brent or Vince sings. This time period ('76) is the Dead at their vocal peak and Donna played a huge part in that. These redundant negative comments will not bring you or anyone else happiness. You would be missing out on the bands best years though. My advise to you: Except her as a member of the band or quit listening to shows from 3-25-72 through 2-17-79. Some of you don't care for Donna's voice. And that funky rhythm they got into with A&A in this era is sooooo cool - I prefer it over a straight-up double-timing.

Anyone who thinks this tune peaked in '77 - not disputing by any means, but give this one a go. Set 2 - Not too in favor of the source change here for the Wheel, but gimme that Cassidy and then a *W*O*W*-party Jed to begin the suite Let it Grow again sounds fantastic, and the real heart of this show comes with first this jam's descent into Wharf Rat, and then down once more to Comes a Time. High Time is played like so many Jerry's ballads were this year: flawlessly. How about that little pre-amble before the main tune starts?!? I'm actually happy to have fairly limited renderings of this tune in the queue in this context it really stands out. Set 1 - check that Samson opener! ::::YOW::::: Stephen > Eyes > Let it Grow masterpiece, but that doesn't matter in the slightest this show is a fascinating comparison point, and certainly another argument in favor of '76 in general. Nothing here at this show can compare to 6/9's St. Once in a while a board like this hits the spot just right. Well, I love this old, rickety, crappy-muffled FM board it brings a bang to the bass and rhythm section, and everything comes in crunchingly strong, if not bright and crystalline.
